In 2010, the worldwide SaaS market was $10 billion. And at the current annual growth rate of more than 20 percent, the SaaS market is on target to more than double by 2015 to $21.3 billion, predicts Gartner, Inc in a report by Gartner analysts Sharon Mertz, Chad Eschinger, and Tom Eid. Worldwide SaaS sales in 2011 are expected to top $12 billion.

2010年の SaaS マーケットは、ワールドワイドで $10 billion だった。そして、現時点における年間成長レートは 20% 以上であり、SaaS マーケットは 2015年までに、2倍以上の $21.3 billion にいたると、Gartner のアナリストである、Sharon Mertz および、Chad Eschinger、Tom Eid がレポートしている。なお、2011年におけるワールドワイドな SaaS 売上は、$12 billion を超えるだろうとも予想している。

Roughly a third of the SaaS market, $3.8 billion in 2011, continues to be in the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) sector that was first pioneered with the SaaS model by Salesforce.com. Another third of the SaaS market, $3.3 billion in 2011, is the content, communications and collaboration (CCC) market. The remaining third of the market includes a variety of other application types, most notably, ERP at $1.7 billion. SaaS-based ERP accounts for roughly 7 percent of the entire ERP market.

この 2011年 SaaS マーケットの、約 1/3 に相当する $3.8 billion は、従来からの CRM (Customer Relationship Management) 分野からのものだが、その SaaS モデルは Salesforce.com により構築されている。それと同様に、2011年の 1/3 にあたる $3.3 billion が、CCC（content, communications and collaboration）マーケットにより占められている。そして、残りのマーケット･シェアには、多様なアプリケーション･タイプが含まれているが、その中で目立つのは、$1.7 billion の ERP である。なお、SaaS ベースの ERP は、ERP マーケット全体の約 7% を占める。

Despite a rash of recent high-profile data breaches, the report finds that SaaS applications are overcoming many of the earlier issues with security and that security is not a big as a concern for customers than in previous years. In the press release for the report, Gartner analyst Tom Eid said that “Initial concerns about security, response time and service availability have diminished for many organizations as SaaS business and computing models have matured and adoption has become more widespread. Usage and vendors’ on-demand ecosystems continue to evolve to provide additional business and technology services, more vertical-specific functionality, and stronger communities of partners and buyers.”

このところ注目され続けている、頻繁なデータの侵害にもかかわらず、SaaS アプリケーションは、セキュリティに関連する従来からの問題を克服しており、数年前と比べると、セキュリティは顧客の関心から離れつつあると、このレポートは述べている。このレポートのプレス･リリースにおいて、『 SaaS ビジネスとコンピューティング･モデルが成熟し、その適用が広範囲におよぶにつれて、当初から意識されてきた、セキュリティ／応答時間／サービスの可用性は、その関心のレベルを引き下げてきている。そして、ユーザーにおける用法と、ベンダーのオン･デマンド･エコシステムは変化し続けている。結果として、より多くのビジネスとテクノロジーのサービスが提供され、垂直型の機能が開発され、また、パートナーとバイヤーのコミュニティが強化されていく』と、Gartner アナリストの Tom Eid が伝えている。

IT 全体の市場規模からすると、そんなものなの？・・・というレベルですが、その内容はというと、徹底的な効率化が図られ、とてもスリムなものに変容していくのでしょう。もちろん、従来から成り立っているアプリケーション領域では、熾烈な生き残り合戦が繰り広げられるのでしょうが、まったく新しいセグメントも登場してくることでしょう。ーーー
