Hadoop World: NYC – Let the Videos Roll

It has been almost a month since Hadoop World: NYC, and things are just starting to get back to normal here at Cloudera HQ. We were thrilled to see over 500 Apache Hadoop enthusiasts descend upon New York City for the first major Big Data event on the East Coast. The variety of applications, and the number of companies involved, were mind-boggling. For those of you who weren’t able to join us, we hope to see you at another event soon!

We have managed to get slides from all of the presentations on the conference website. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be releasing videos from talks across all three tracks: Applications, Development and Administration, and Extensions.

This week, we have the opening address and the introduction of Cloudera Desktop. That leaves 34 more talks! To stay up to date, subscribe to our blog and follow us on twitter.

In our previous episode, Vijay Rajagopalan shared with us some of the details about a session he did at MIX09 which showed how Microsoft was providing support for building Silverlight applications using Eclipse on either Windows or even on other platforms as well.

In today’s episode Vijay shares with us the details regarding some new interoperability support which will similarly allow PHP developers to use the Eclipse IDE to develop for and deploy to Windows Azure, and provide Java developers with a new Windows Azure SDK, making their life much easier when they use Windows Azure storage services in particular. He’ll also describe how Microsoft is working to make sure that Eclipse itself is a great Windows 7 application and how it will enable developers to write applications which can take full advantage of special Windows 7 features.

New Eclipse, PHP, and Java Tools for Windows Azure

2009年11月27日よりドイツの Ludwigsburg で開催されている Eclipse Summit Europe で、Microsoft は 2つのオープンソース･プロジェクトを発表した。それらは、Windows Azure 上で、PHP と Java を用いる開発を容易にするためのものである。どちらのプロジェクトも、フランスの Soyatec とのコラボレーションの結果である。

最初の PHP に関するプロジェクトは、 Windows Azure Tools for Eclipse という Windows Azure におけるプロジェクトであり、Eclipse を使用する PHP 開発者を支援する。 Interoperability @ Microsoft blogブログによると：

Windows Azure Tools for Eclipse が提供するものは、PHP アプリケーションを Windows Azure 上で、Eclipse を用いて開発／デバッグ／コンフィグレーション／ディプロイする際に、開発者を支援するものとなる。

数ヶ月前に紹介されている、Windows Azure SDK for PHP をバンドルするプラグインが提供される。

2番目のプロジェクトは Windows Azure SDK for Java であり、Java を用いてWindows Azure Storage にアクセスするためのクライアント･ライブラリである。このライブラリは、Eclipse の拡張機能である、 “Storage Explorer” の作成において使用される。

すべてのデベロッパーに対して適切なプラットフォーム･エクスペリエンスを提供していくという意味で、Windows Azure チームは、この 2つのプロジェクトを歓迎する。

昨日のアナウンスメントには、Windows 7 用に Eclipse を拡張していくプロジェクトと、Eclipse Tools for Silverlight Ver 1.0 も含まれる。詳しくは、Interoperability @ Microsoft blog を参照して欲しい。

Yesterday at the Eclipse Summit Europe in Ludwigsburg, Germany, Microsoft announced two exciting new open source projects that will make it easier for PHP and Java developers to work with Windows Azure. Both projects were created in collaboration with Soyatec, a France-based IT solutions provider.

The first project, Windows Azure Tools for Eclipse, helps PHP developers to use Eclipse to author Windows Azure projects. From the Interoperability @ Microsoft blog:

Windows Azure Tools for Eclipse provides a series of wizards and utilities that allow developers to write, debug, and configure for and deploy PHP applications to Windows Azure. It is available for download at www.windowsazure4e.org

The plug-in also bundles the existing Windows Azure SDK for PHP, which we introduced a few months ago.

The second project, Windows Azure SDK for Java, is a client library for accessing Windows Azure storage from Java. This library was used in the creation of the “Storage Explorer” feature of the Eclipse extension.

We on the Windows Azure team are excited about both of these projects, which are part of our ongoing work to provide a great platform experience for all developers.
